Meaning Behind the Piece:

Amber Daydream grew out of a moment in my studio when colour simply refused to leave and my ideas for florals started pouring in.

After finishing another floral painting earlier in the week, the warmth of those tones stayed with me, the glow of peach and amber, the sense of fullness that flowers can carry when they are allowed to take centre stage. So I just grabbed a second canvas, and this painting slowly unfolded from that same energy.

The surface was built gradually with layers of acrylic, mixed media and collage, creating depth and atmosphere across the background. Oil paint was then used to bring the roses forward with stronger, more sculptural and my signature block style strokes, allowing them to rise from the canvas with a richness and presence that only oils can give.

I think there is a feeling of generosity in this piece.

The colours feel warm and abundant, the movement of the small bird adds life to the composition, and together they create a painting that draws the eye back again and again. Depending on the light in the room, different details begin to reveal themselves, the layers, the textures, the subtle shifts in colour.
